My involvement with Business Health Forum has provided our company with the opportunity to voice our concerns of balancing the ability to provide quality affordable health insurance for our employees with government goals of providing health care for all. During my two year involvement with Business Health Forum, I have testified at the state capital, spoken with Senator Bennet and spoken before an audience whose primary focus is access for all. Business Health Forum has developed a set of principles that encompasses the goals of universal coverage and the ability to sustainably fund the benefits. This allows Business Health Forum to provide a credible voice in the health care debate that is a balance between cost and access. Imagine that your primary customer had the ability to contractually obligate you to sell your product to them at a set price for an indefinite period; wouldn’t you want the ability to negotiate the scope and quality of the components required to fulfill that contract?

As a small employer and employee benefits lawyer, I encounter a wide variety of employers struggling to help their employees maintain decent health care coverage within a maze of increasing costs and numerous regulatory complexities. I was excited to learn about the Business Health Forum, and I continue to support its efforts, both financially and as a member of its Board, because the BHF facilitates business community involvement in the efforts to improve our health care system. At a time when business owners and leaders are frustrated by the conflicting agendas of niche organizations and special interest groups, the Business Health Forum is the one non-profit that offers an objective business perspective to help maintain focus on the real issues where the voice of business must be heard.

The Business Health Forum is the only organization keeping businesses informed daily on proposed healthcare legislation. Their emails are a timely source of information on a subject that will have a profound impact on all businesses.

There are many aspects of improving quality health care and in keeping insurance affordable in Colorado. Business plays a key role, and we need a voice as we affect change. The Business Health Forum is an excellent vehicle to make that happen.Ann Brown interview on PBS's the Online NewsHour
